Former women’s 800m world champion Eunice Sum has taken over the skipper duties after Julius Yego controversially stepped down from the role.
Yego, also the captain of the squad for the Rio 2016 Games in Brazil, relinquished from the position in protest of alleged denial to have his coach at the Kasarani bubble camp.
Yego accused Athletics Kenya of denying him access to his coach but Team Manager Barnaba Korir dismissed Yego saying he was engaging in “activism without facts”.
Korir accused Yego of dishonesty and lacking focus in his training saying he had failed to follow the right channels for his coach to be allowed into the bubble camp.
Yego has been struggling to replicate his world-class form and is almost 30 metres shy of his best throw of 92.70 metres.
