Kenya rules Africa in medal standings at end of Tokyo Olympics

Kenya emerged too of the medals table in Africa, emerging 19th globally as the one-of-its-kind Tokyo Olympic Games came to a close on Sunday.

Team Kenya bagged a total of 10 medals, including four gold medals as the national anthem was played twice on the final day of the Games, the day marathoner Eliud Kipchoge made history as the third man to ever succeed in defending an Olympics title.

Kenya also managed four silver and two bronze medals, ahead of neighbours Uganda who came second with six medals – two gold, a silver and four bronze medals.

South Africa, who were 51st globally with a single gold and two silver, came third with Egypt and Ethiopia completing the the top five in Africa as Nigeria, who had star sprinter Blessing Okagbare out of the Games after failing a doping test, only managed a silver and bronze ended in eighth position on the continent.

USA rules the global standings with 30 gold, followed by China.
