UEFA Champions’ League draw rekindles past epic ties to look forward to

This season’s UEFA Champions’ League group stage has tabled some epic ties after the draw that was conducted in Istanbul, Turkey, will see interesting match-ups starting with the opening matches on 14th September.

Liverpool and AC Milan will rekindle the memories of the 2005 final when they face off in Group B, while Manchester United face Villarreal, who beat them in last season’s Europa League final, in Group F alongside Italian club Atalanta and Swiss side Young Boys.

Liverpool’s group also carries Atletico Madrid, Porto and AC Milan.

Premier League champions Manchester City, who lost to Paris St-Germain two seasons ago, have a two-legged rematch in Group; dubbed the money bags group, also featuring Leipzig and Club Brugge.

Holders Chelsea will have a fairly easy draw on paper when they come up against Serie A giants Juventus, Russian club Zenit St Petersburg and Swedish side Malmo.

Another highlight of the draw is Group E which will be a battle of teams whose names start with letter ‘B’ has giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona, who will be fancied against Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv.

Group stage draw in full:

Group A: Manchester City, Paris St-Germain, RB Leipzig, Club Bruges

Group B: Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, Porto, AC Milan

Group C: Sporting Lisbon, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Besiktas

Group D: Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sheriff Tiraspol

Group E: Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Benfica, Dynamo Kyiv

Group F: Villarreal, Manchester United, Atalanta, Young Boys

Group G: Lille, Sevilla, FC Salzburg, Wolfsburg

Group H: Chelsea, Juventus, Zenit St Petersburg, Malmo

This season’s Champions League final will be staged at the St Petersburg Stadium in Russia on 28th May 2022.
