Olympique Lyonnais coach Rudi Garcia says his team was not clinical enough. This is stated after a 2-1 home defeat at home against Montpellier Hérault SC in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.

This is a setback for their title hopes.

Les Gones was behind after Téji Savanier gave the visitors the lead with a 20th-minute header at the Groupama Stadium.

They restored parity in first-half stoppage time through Lucas Paqueta’s close-range finish. They then went behind again from Elye Wahi’s second-half strike.

Speaking on the back of the loss, the former Roma coach said his side could have scored two goals in the first 30 seconds before their visitors settled into the game but failed to utilize the opportunity.

After getting the equalizer, Garcia noted that they played well in the second half but weren’t clinical. He added that Montpellier didn’t get much chance as them as the difference was scoring.

Also reacting to the development, Memphis Depay noted that Lyon started very well and scored with their first attack. He added that they also created many chances, but it was frustrating not to get the needed result.

The defeat leaves Lyon third on the Ligue 1 table, two points behind Paris Saint-Germain, and three behind the table toppers, LOSC Lille.

Monaco completes the top for on 49 points, three points behind Lyon.

Garcia further stated that Lyon is now in an endurance race and can’t afford to drop points, adding that a draw would not have been a good result.

Meanwhile, the win against Lyon is Montpellier’s second straight league win and their third in a row in all competitions. The success is coming on the back of nine matches without a win.

Michel Der Zakarian’s side is now back in the European contention.

Reacting to the win, the coach said his side deserved to win, lauding his players for doing the needful.
