Real Madrid recorded a comfortable 2-0 win against Valencia on Sunday in the La Liga to cut Atletico Madrid’s lead to just 5 points.

Diego Simeone’s men had defeated Granada 2-1 on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points with a game in hand.

However, Real Madrid and Barcelona continue to keep their faint hopes of a title win alive with wins against Valencia and Alaves respectively.

Barcelona had thrashed Alaves 5-1 on Saturday with Leo Messi and Trincao scoring braces. They are three points behind Real Madrid but eight points behind Atlético Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane’s men had it easy also against a weak Valencia side who has just one win in its last 5 matches before the visit to Madrid.

Benzema gave Real Madrid the lead in the 12th minute, before Toni Kroos made it 2-0 late in the first half.

Ferland Mendy thought he had made it 3-0 in the second half but his goal was overturned by the VAR.

Real Madrid will face Real Valladolid next weekend in La Liga before a Champions League tie Atalanta.

Barcelona’s next game is against PSG in the UEFA Champions League this midweek before returning to the La Liga next weekend against Cadiz.

Atletico Madrid’s next set of games is against Levante home and away in the La Liga this Midweek and next weekend before facing Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League knock-out stage.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad recorded a 1-0 win away at Getafe while Osasuna also did the same at Levante. Real Betis were not left out of the away wins as they beat Villarreal 2-1.

On Monday, Cadiz will host Atletico Bilbao hoping to improve on their 15th place spot on the standing as a win could take them into the top ten.
