Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli has said that playing spectacular football without getting results is not the team’s priority.
He is speaking after his lads suffered a 1-0 loss to the newly-promoted side at Florence. The former Italy coach described the stats from the game as embarrassing. He is now aiming to bounce back in the Coppa Italia against Udinese.
In order to get the job done, Prandelli, who recently took over the job after Guiseppe Iachini, was sacked for lack of results. After making his first start with a defeat against Fillippo Inzaghi’s men during the weekend, Prandelli has told his players to be ready to fight and prepare for the task ahead. He added that they must change their mentality in order to turn their season around.
Speaking at a post-match conference, he noted that Fiorentina had great support from the fans during the 2006-07 season, but things are now different.
The tactician said to achieve his aim; he would have t select those who aren’t afraid and ready to fight. He added that the selection would also depend on their physical conditions.
Prandelli, who further stated that the team played well, but the stats were embarrassing against Benevento, said there is a need for a winning mentality and a desire to always be a team.
While noting that Benevento overwhelmed his team, Prandelli said much more must be done by the team on a physical level.
Prandelli further harped on change in mentality, which he said can help his attackers excel. He pointed out that Dusan Vlahovic played with good intensity, but attackers need to get more opportunities with such maneuvering, which he said they are lacking.
He, therefore, stated that ahead of the meeting with Udinese, they will take advantage of the chances created by putting in place a proactive and combative mentality.”
Fiorentina is currently 15th on the Serie A log after eight games. They will be involved in seven games before Christmas.
