It’s looking like Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen will be plying his trade with Napoli in the summer after arriving Italy for talks with the Partonopei.
However, his brother-in-law, who is representative, Osita Okolo, said Italy’s ‘big racism problem’ could stop the promising striker from making a move from Lille Metropole.
According to reports, both clubs are about to reach an agreement for a €100m deal for Osimhen and his teammate Gabriel.
Sky Sport Italia and Calciomercato.it report that the former Wolfsvburg striker landed in Naples with his girlfriend and representatives as they will be meeting the club’s officials later for negotiation of personal terms.
Okolo, who stated clearly that non-footballing factors would be considered too said Napoli’s interest for the in-form striker is great, added that the club owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis and the directors want him.
Speaking with Tuttomercatoweb, the agent said several rounds of talks had been held between both parties, but an agreement is yet to be reached with Napoli.
Therefore, he is looking forward to what will happen with Lille Metropole, if the clubs will reach agreement over transfer fees as Osimhen is still contracted to them.
He further stated that the striker likes the city, which he described as fantastic, and he wants the team as well.
Okolo also said he is not surprised at the interest of a big Italian club for Osihmen based on his performance in his debut season in France where he won the African player of the year in the league.
While stating that racism is a big problem in Italy, Okolo said it is, unfortunately, a widespread phenomenon. He, however, pointed out that the final decision lies with the player and no-one else.
French transfer expert Manu Lonjon had claimed that the Pertonopei intends to wrap up negotiations as soon as possible, adding that Napoli has already prepared five-year contracts for the pair.
He also said that Gabriel, who is valued at €30m, is ready to accept their offer, but Osimhen, who is valued at €70m, is yet to be convinced.
Alfredo Pedulla had also claimed that the forward had agreed on personal terms with Napoli some months ago, and he will join the Coppa Italia winners.
