After aggravating his shoulder injury during Nigeria-Sierra Leone African Cup of Nations qualifier, Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has continued his recovery at the team’s base in Naples.
The team’s medics had initially blamed their Nigerian counterpart for adding more to the problem through wrong twisting – the claim which the Nigerian striker himself denied. According to a statement from the club on the progress, made by the former Lille striker, he trained alone on the pitch and was also in the gym on Monday.
Since his return from the AFCON qualifiers, Osimhen has missed five games, and Napoli seems to be doing well in his absence. So far, he has scored just one goal, but he is not under pressure to deliver as he contributes to goals for the team.
Napoli is currently third on the Serie A table with 20 points after their 4-0 win at Crotone on Sunday. They are currently six points behind leaders, AC Milan who continued their unbeaten run with a 2-1 win at Sampdoria.
After their weekend victory, Napoli returned for a light recovery session on Monday morning, and their attention will be on their final group game in Europa League against Real Sociedad on Thursday at home.
The statement from the Pertonopei further stated that the squad was split into two groups; those who started during the Crotone win on Sunday game at the Stadio Ezio Scida being taken to the gym for recovery work while the remainder of the squad started their session with a warm-up and some passing drills.
The team later got together with a focus on tactics, technique, building play and shooting. The ended the day’s session with a mini-match and a gym circuit.
Meanwhile, the return date of the Nigerian striker is yet to be revealed. From the look of things, he might still be out of action for another two weeks at least.
