Inter CEO, Beppe Marotta, has reacted to Barcelona’s interest in the service of the club’s striker, Lautaro Matinez.
In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, the director is waiting to see what Barcelona would do about the Argentine’s release clause. During the interview, he also talked about the fate of Sandro Tonali and Radja Nainggolan, and the successful transfer of former striker Mauro Icardi to PSG after an initial loan deal.
The Nerazzurri chief also said that the plan of the club, that is third in the Italian Serie A, is to reinforce the squad during the summer transfer and have no intention of selling their key players like other big clubs.
When asked about Martinez’s speculation and the €111m release clause, Marotta acknowledged that the clause expires on July 7, said the club would wait on Barcelona, and then meet up with him.
He said they intend to let him know that he is highly appreciated, and he is part of the club’s project. While also stating that he has contributed to the development of the squad, and they have achieved great results.
Barcelona had been planning to reduce the amount they will pay for the service of the poacher by including left-back, Junior Firpo in the deal as paying the stated amount in the clause will significantly affect the team’s budget because Inter Milan wants a one-time payment.
Speaking on the speculations linking the Nerazzurri to Brescia midfielder Tonali, the Inter Chief said the San Siro club aims to create a mix between young players who are possibly Italian and experienced.
He said experience is needed too to create a balance while admitting that a team can’t win with just young players.
Marotta said it was a positive move on the transfer of Icardi to Paris Saint-Germain after joining the Paris club on a loan deal, and all parties involved were satisfied with the outcome.
On the issue surrounding Raja Nainggolan, who is currently on loan at Cagliari, he said the club would sort his future when he returns after the loan period.
