Napoli came from behind to register a 2-1 win over the promoted side, Benevento in the Italian Serie A clash played on Sunday at Stadio Ciro Vigorito.

The parent of the Insigne brothers will be proud of their kids, as they both scored in the Campania derby.

Roberto Insigne gave the promoted side the lead in the first half, converting Gianluca Lapadula’s pullback.

Insigne, who is Napoli’s captain restored parity in the battle of brothers for the Pertonopei.

It was also a battle between former teammates in Pippo Inzaghi and Rino Gattuso, with the former Milan midfielder having the last laugh.

The win is expected to be a confidence booster for the Partenopei, having had a mixed week. They romped free-scoring Atalanta 4-1 win last weekend, only to record a shocking 1-0 Europa League home defeat to AZ Alkmaar that had 13 COVID-19 cases amongst its playing personnel.

Napoli had chances early in the game but couldn’t find back of the net. On the part of the hosts, Roberto Insigne had a chance also to put them in front, but his looping header landed on the roof of the net.

Lozano’s call for a penalty was turned down when he went down in the box after being pushed by Daam Foulon. The non-intervention of the referee and VAR left him furious.

The host then went in front through the little Insigne. Lapadula had initially attempted a pass to him which was cut out by Kostas Manolas, it fell back to him again, and he released it to Insigne, who scored from a tight angle, firing into the roof of the net from seven yards. The goal left him emotional because it was his debut Serie A goal against his hometown club and his brother.

Benevento took the lead into the second half after Napoli’s strikes hit the woodwork twice in 30 seconds before the whistle.

Lorenzo in the second half then forced a save from Montipò, but the goalie couldn’t stop the visitors from equalising from the resulting corner.

Insigne got the game back on level terms with a vicious strike from the edge of the box. The ball bounced in off the underside of the crossbar only to be confirmed by the goal-line technology.

Matteo Politano came in from the bench alongside fellow substitute, Andrea Petagna to give the visitors the lead which eventually became the winning goal.

Petagna fired in the shot from 12 yards after an assist from Politano, who also assisted the equaliser to Insigne.
