Kimmich Scores As Bayern Win Dortmund To Extend Lead

Bayern star, Joshua Kimmich scored an outrageous first-half goal, that earned Bayern Munich a 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in yesterday’s Der Klassiker.

It was an eagerly anticipated match as two to the biggest clubs in Germany clashed, after a long time without football. Bayern won the encounter with a solo goal.

The Bavarians have now extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table with seven points.

They have possibly ended the German title race just two weeks after football resumed in Germany.

The two teams were in a terrific form prior to this match, having previously won six consecutive league matches. The game was played behind-closed-doors at Signal Iduna Park.

Joshua Kimmich was the only scorer in the game, as he scored just before half-time with a clever chip over the goalkeeper, Roman Burki from 20 yards.

Dortmund would have scored first inside 29 seconds if not for the intervention of Jerome Boateng, who blocked Haaland’s shot on the line.

Serge Gnabry took his place on the left side of the attack over Ivan Perisic, and he was next to come close to scoring. The game had equal chances from then on till the goal came.

The visitors scored the breakthrough goal two minutes before the half-time thanks to Kimmich’s brilliance.

The right-back turned midfielder spotted Roman Burki off his line and chipped the ball over the Dortmund keeper from 20 yards.

Dortmund striker Erling Haaland went off due to injury in the second half.

It was also a memorable game for Bayern goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer who made his 400th Bundesliga appearance.

If Dortmund had won yesterday, they would have put pressure on Bayern in the title race. However, the league leaders have gotten a seven-point lead at the top with just six games left to play.

The Bundesliga race is still open, and they are still many tough matches to be played. Hansi Flick’s men will still face tough clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach.

On Saturday, Bayern will welcome Fortuna Dusseldorf to the Allianz Arena, while Dortmund travels to face bottom side Paderborn on Sunday.
