Tusker were crowned the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Kenya Premier League Champions following their 2 – 1 win over Bidco United in their season finale played at Nairobi’s Utalii Grounds.
First half goals from Rodgers Aloro and Henry Meja were enough to seal the win for the brewers who needed just a point to clinch their 12th league title in the club’s history.
Bidco United pulled one back in the second half through David Orem.
Kenya Breweries Limited Managing Director, John Musunga, expressed the brand’s pride in the team having achieved double feat over the past one month, the league crown adding to the nod to represent Kenya at the CAF Champions League.
“We are extremely proud of the team for being crowned the champions of the FKF Premier League 2020/2021. The team has performed extremely well throughout the season and the trophy is duly deserved,” he said.
“I must applaud the work and effort that the players and staff have put in throughout the season to get to where they are. As KBL, we will celebrate the team’s triumph as we now look towards the upcoming CAF Champions League where we expect a positive showing from the boys.
“A win for Tusker FC is a win for Kenya Breweries as the team emulates the values and ideals we celebrate every day. The indomitable spirit our boys have shown throughout the season is remarkable.
“They have competed valiantly and have won in one of the most challenging seasons, taking the Covid-19 pandemic into account. The resilience that they have shown is admirable and we hope to see the same spirit in the coming weeks as they embark on their continental journey.”
Focus now shifts to the CAF Champions League which starts on 10th September, the brewers scheduled to face Arta Solar 7 of Djibouti in the preliminary round of the tournament they are making a return to after five years in the cold.
