EURO 2020: Netherlands vs Austria

Netherlands are today looking to build on their winning start to Euro 2020 as they take on Austria.

After failing to qualify for the last European Championships and the 2018 World Cup, the Dutch are back at a major tournament for the first time since 2014.

They got off to a winning start, beating Ukraine 3-2 in perhaps the game of the tournament so far, and can now book their place in the last-16 with a game to spare by beating Austria.

The Austrians also have three points on the board already after beating newcomers North Macedonia in their opener, though this is likely to prove a much tougher test.

Team news

For the Netherlands, much willdepend on the fitness of defender Matthijs De Ligt, who missed the opener against Ukraine.

For Austria, Michael Gregoritsch is pushing for a start after scoring off the bench against North Macedonia but Marko Arnautovic is suspended.

Predicted XI

Netherlands : Stekelenburg; Dumfries, Timber, De Vrij, Blind, Van Aanholt; De Roon, Wijnaldum, F. De Jong; Depay, Weghorst

Austria : Bachmann; Lainer, Dragović, Hinteregger, Ulmer; Laimer, Schlager, Alaba; Sabitzer; Kalajdzic, Baumgartner

Prediction

The Netherlands were one of the sharpest attacking sides we’ve seen at the tournament so far and should have the firepower to overcome a usually solid Austria defence.

Head to head

Netherlands wins: 8
Draws: 4
Austria wins: 6
