Ahead of the 91st Mashemeji Derby between AFC Leopards and archrivals Gor Mahia, either side is confident of carrying the bragging rights at the end of the tie.

The two sides lock horns for the chance to represent Kenya in next season’s CAF Confederations Cup, a cash prize of KSh2 million and of course the bragging rights.

They come into the match having similar fate in the context of the form they have had recently, blowing hot and cold. K’Ogalo are on the back of a 2-1 loss to Western Stima in midweek league action while Leopards faced criticism for their recent loss to Wazito.

This is the first encounter in the Cup between the two rivals since 2013 when Peter Opiyo was the hero for Ingwe who won on the day and have added another crown in 2017.

Gor, who last won the Cup title in 2012, have however dominated the league contest in the past five years, extending their league honours to 19 while Leopards remain with 12, last of which was back in 1998.

The match will be staged at the Nyayo Stadium after days of uncertainty about the availability of the venue, the confirmation coming only on Thursday forcing the federation to shift the match from Utalii grounds where it had been scheduled after government initially declined to allow FKF access to recently-refurbished Nyayo.
