The inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA region qualifiers kick off in Nairobi on Saturday, 28th August 28 at the Nyayo National Stadium.
All of the eight clubs expected to compete for the slot checked into the city by Friday except for Zanzibari outfit – New Generation – who were scheduled to jet in Saturday morning.
The winner of the contest will represent the CECAFA region at the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament to be staged in Egypt later in the year.
“This tournament is the next level for the women’s game in the CECAFA region. It will provide our teams with the opportunity to play at the highest level of continental club competition available in Africa, which is the CAF Women’s Champions League,” said CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo.
“This will help raise the profile of the women’s game, attract more players, fans and lead to the creation of more clubs,” said Local Organizing Committee chairperson, also the FKF Deputy President, Doris Petra.
The matches are set to be played at the Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadia.
