Olympique Lyonnais hotshot Tino Kadewere has revealed that the pre-match encouragement he got from Real Madrid hitman, Karim Benzema played a huge role in his brace against Saint-Etienne over the weekend.
The Zimbabwean international so far has far netted nine goals in the French Ligue 1 this season. He pointed out that he was touched by the pre-match Twitter video posted by Benzema, who made a mark at Lyon before leaving for Bernabeau.
The Frenchman had urged him to keep fulfilling his dreams. This, the Zimbabwean said was an allusion to his pre-match dream before his double in the 2-1 home win over ASSE in November.
Kadewere, who told Téléfoot that it was unfortunate for him not to be on Twitter, added that he would have scored more goals if he had seen the video before the game. While expressing confidence in his ability, he said getting a tweet from such a huge football figure, whom he looked up to gives him the needed motivation.
He also expressed delight that one of the strikers that made him join Les Gone is following his progress. Kadewere, who is happy with his form said it gives him confidence also and expressed gratitude to the Real Madrid striker.
Also reacting to the 5-0 annihilation, Kadewere said he had a feeling that he will have a good game. The win put Lyon just two points behind PSG.
Having scored in the first leg against them that was a confidence booster for him to do more. He added that getting goals and also get a victory for the club was what matters most.
Rudi Garcia lauded his lads for the convincing win over their hosts, saying they were perfect with high pressing.
Speaking in a post-match press conference, the former AS Roma coach noted that the team aimed to stretch Saint-Étienne to develop the game and they achieved that.
He also lauded his players for their consistency throughout the match.
