French forward Ousmane Dembele is currently having discussions with Barcelona over a possible contract extension with the club.

Dembele’s current contract at the club will expire in 2022; the player is one of the players that head coach Ronald Koeman can trust.

The 23-year-old, a subject to transfers before the summer because of injury issues, has now recovered fully and has had a good start to the season.

He had a goal and an assist in Barca’s 3-0 Champions League win over Ferencvaros in Budapest on Wednesday.

His new-found form and the arrival of a new coach in Ronald Koeman have restored the team’s management’s confidence in him.

However, Manchester United is interested in the France international and is monitoring his situation.

The Blaugrana are not bothered about the Premier League side’s interest in the player as they are confident of getting him to commit to a new long-term deal.

Manchester United had tried to capture the former Dortmund star on loan during the summer, but the player was not convenient with a move to Old Trafford.

Dembele has made 11 appearances for Barcelona this season and has contributed six goals, including four goals and two assists.

Meanwhile, Barcelona has put a hold on their transfer business until January, when they will elect a new president.

The elections for a new club president at Barca will occur on January 24; former club president Josep Maria Bartomeu left his position in October.

Dembele joined Barcelona in 2017 from Borussia Dortmund for an initial fee of €105 million; however, the club wants to ensure they don’t lose him for free in 2022.

He made 85 appearances since his move to Camp Nou, but he made just nine appearances last season in all competitions.
