Barcelona midfielder Carlos Alena could leave the Camp Nou in the January transfer window on loan after he was given permission to leave the club.
Alena is a famous La Masia Academy product, but he has failed to nail a regular shirt in the first team under manager Ronald Koeman.
The 23-year-old has only five appearances across La Liga and the Champions League, but he only made one appearance as a starter.
This is poor compared to the 27 appearances in all competitions for the club in 2018-2019 which is the midfielder’s career-best in appearances for Barca.
Alena spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Betis, and Getafe has been linked with his services on a deal that will likely run until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, newly-appointed Ronald Koeman explained that the player could seek a move in the January transfer window.
“Alena has permission from the club to seek his exit, When everything is done, I will be able to give an opinion, but there are players who can decide to stay or not. He has decided to seek his exit.” Koeman said.
Barcelona will face Atletico Bilbao at the San Mames Stadium on Wednesday in the La Liga, but the club was hit with two coronavirus cases on Monday after testing. The two positive cases included two staffs from Barcelona.
Barcelona is in the fifth position with 28 points from 16 games, 10 points behind Atletico Madrid who are in the first position with 38 points from 16 games.
Ronald Koeman’s men are now six matches unbeaten winning four and drawing the other two in the La Liga.
After facing Atlético Bilbao on Wednesday, Barcelona will now travel to face Granada in another La Liga game.
