Olympique de Marseille coach André Villas-Boas (AVB) has expressed delight with his team over their 3-1 win over Nante in the French Ligue 1 game.
After being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after their loss to Porto during the midweek, the Ligue 1 side might want to focus more on building their domestic form and plan ahead of next season’s tournament. Although, they still have two games left to play in the tournament.
Goals from Florian Thuavin, Dimitri Payet, and Dario Benedetto put them in the Champions League spot as OM moved into the top three.
Marseille, the 1993 European champion, now has a massive home game against Olympiacos on Tuesday. They are also planning to finish in third place in their group to qualify for the knockout stage of the Europa League football in 2021.
Speaking after the game, the former Chelsea and Tottenham boss said it was a good team performance that gave each player individual victory.
He praised them for their right spirit and the right desire. This way, he believed they combined well and got into their opponent box and cause damage. He is now hoping that the game can act as a reference point for what’s to come.
Speaking of their remaining Champions League games, Villas-Boas said they must win their remaining games but must first defeat Olympiacos.
While noting that they also had a god game against Bordeaux before their game against Porto, the tactician did not promise anything as things were hard for his lads.
Speaking of his formation, Villas-Boas said the 4-2-3-1 with wingers and Cuisance between the lines worked well for him. This means he could repeat the same against the Greek team.
Marseille has failed to get a single point from the four games played in the group so far. So winning their remaining two games will brighten their chances of qualifying for Europa.
