Arsenal boosted their chances of making a Europa League spot after thrashing Norwich City 4-0 on Wednesday evening in the English Premier League in a match played at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal currently sits in the seventh position on the log and 6 points away from the last time Europa League spot with just 6 more matches left in the season.
Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his 18th and 19th goal of the season against the bottom club as he scored twice in the win. His first goal was more or less like a gift from Norwich City’s goalkeeper Tim Krul whom he dispossessed before sending in a curler into an empty net to give Arsenal the lead in the 33rd minute.
Moments later he provided the assist for Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka as the Arsenal doubled the advantage, his first goal since March 2019.
Another mistake in the 67th minute by the Canaries defender Josip Drmic led Aubameyang to another goal before Cedric Soares completed the scoreline with nine minutes left.
The result leaves Norwich City 6 points away from safety as their chances of staying back in the Premier League and avoiding relegation continues to dim.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are 6 points away from Manchester United and Wolves in fifth and sixth but should they be able to get into the fifth position, they will be able to qualify for the UEFA Champions League as Manchester City has been banned from the competition which leaves the fifth-placed team with the chance of playing in Europe’s elite club competition.
In other games played on Wednesday afternoon, Bournemouth lost at home woefully to Newcastle 4-0, Everton beat Leicester 2-1 and Chelsea away at West Ham lost 3-2 in the London Derby.
On Thursday, Sheffield United will host Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will welcome incoming Champions Liverpool.
