The 2020/21 Champions League is set to begin today. The biggest European club competition will commence with the first round of group matches. The group stage has been drawn, and the 32 teams know who their first six matches of the tournament will be against.
Bayern Munich are the defending champions after they won the competition last season, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the final in Lisbon.
Today, we will take a look at some of the biggest favourites to win the 2020/21 Champions League season.
- Bayern Munich
The Bavarians are obviously the strongest favourites to win the 2020/21 Champions League. Bayern Munich were blazing in the competition last season, as they won every single game en route to claiming the Champions League and a historic second treble for them. Hansi Flick’s side scored 43 goals in the UCL last season.
Bayern have a lethal and formidable attack, with pacy fullbacks. Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry, and Robert Lewandowski have impeccable throughout the year and will come to the tournament as the biggest favourites.
- Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s men have always been touted as favourites to win the Champions League for many seasons now. However, the trophy has always eluded them. On paper, Manchester City possesses a great crop of players that are capable of winning the Champions League.
The English team will be hoping to end their long wait for a European trophy this season.
- Paris Saint-Germain
Last season’s finalists had an incredible campaign last season but disappointingly failed to overcome Bayern in the final. The French Champions have all it takes to win the Champions League this season.
World-class players like Neymar Jr, Kylian Mbappe, and Angel Di Maria will be crucial to their campaign this time.
- Liverpool
The 2018/2019 Champions League winners were knocked out of the tournament last year by Athletico Madrid in the round of 16 stages. However, you will not deny the incredible amount of quality they have in their ranks.
Jurgen Klopp’s men will focus their energy on winning the Champions League this season.
- Barcelona
Very few teams are as desperate as Barcelona when it comes to winning the Champions League trophy. The Catalan club last won the competition in 2015 and has been knocked out embarrassingly since then.
Lionel Messi has always stated his desire to bring the Champions League trophy back to Camp Nou. Ronald Koeman has assembled a pretty decent squad, and things are looking positive for the Blaugranas.
